Bay Area Cricket Alliance (BACA) is a non-profit sports organization dedicated to promoting the game of cricket in greater San Francisco bay area and beyond.

BACA is affiliated to USA Cricket Association and prepares players to be a part of USA national team in the Men, Women and Youth categories.

Established in 1999, Bay Area Cricket Alliance (BACA) has grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the best organized cricket leagues in the USA. Currently, there are more than 200 members playing in this League. BACA has been a member of the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) since 2000.

BACA promotes cricket by organizing tournaments and parallel activities for its members. It hosts and participates in Inter-League cricketing events by inviting teams from all over the USA and sends its representative teams to play in other states. The organization is constantly working hard to promote the game at all levels, particularly in schools.

In 2000, BACA started a Youth Cricket program. The Summer Cricket Camp for Youth was a great success. Nearly thirty children in the age range of 10-13 years were part of that program in 2002. Coaches are provided by the organization to infuse the art of playing cricket into the participants. Encouraged by the success of this program, BACA is planning to expand this activity to engage more children throughout the year.

Starting in 2009, we have also organized local women who are cricket enthusiasts to create a women’s league. The excitement of this group has allowed them to progress rapidly into a well functioning unit that plans to participate in the national women’s cricket tournament starting 2010.

The ultimate goal of all this activity is to produce great cricket players that can go on to the national level and represent the USA in international competition. To help accomplish this goal, BACA is aligned with USACA and follows the rules and standards set by the International Cricket Council. Several players from BACA’s youth program have gone on to represent USA at the international level. BACA’s goal is to prepare more players to qualify for such high-level teams.

Behind all of its success is a lot of support from the City of San Jose and the City of Milpitas. BACA deeply appreciates all of their cooperation in helping the league popularize the game in this area and beyond.

Specific Events

To help players developed their abilities and progress to the higher regional and national levels, BACA organizes the following events. These are all open to the public for free so anyone can learn and enjoy this sport.

League cricket (BACA’s premier event) is played April through October each year followed by Knockout competition for the league teams. This gives each team the chance to meet every other team in the League and play serious cricket. Players can display not only their best cricket talents but how well they can sustain such performances over many games.

In addition to league cricket, BACA organizes its annual Cricket Festival to mark the Independence Day celebration, a 20-20 Tournament as well as an inter-league friendship tournament between BACA and Northern California Cricket Association. These events give players experience with the various formats of cricket, all of which are used at the national and international level.

For the women’s unit, an inter-league series has been setup with the team representing the North West Women’s Cricket League based in the Seattle area. Matches will be played in the San Jose area followed by games played in the Seattle area.

For the youth, regular summer training camps are held for players who are experienced as well as for those first time children who want to find out what cricket is all about. Efforts are currently underway with local schools to work cricket into their regular physical education training.
